@mechakreidler The Coast Guard is part of the US Armed Forces and are also under Homeland Security. And the CG has HITRON, which are Coast Guard snipers. And tell your friend the saying "The Few, The Proud" came the motto before that "A Few Good Men" ... and I'm enlisted in the USMC. Lol but just sticking up for my fellow brothers in another branch.

The Coast Guard is definately a proud branch of the U.S. military. People just don't consider it as widely as say, the Army or the Air Force, etc. They put great effort in and serve this country. I'm only 16 but I definately want to be a member of the Coast Guard.

I really find it very , very sad that anyone would have the ignorance to put down the Coast Guard , Regardless the path they took was each of their own individual choices - they are strong and as brave as any other service memeber - And whether they only guard the US shores or foreign - SOMEONE has to gurard our shores right ? This is silly , I personally "Thank" our Coast Guard for a job well done !

@historyman9 that's 1 person out of the 10,000 or so that have been KIA in Iraq or Afghanistan. Sure they may have went to the Waters of the Persian Gulf but I have never seen anyone from the Coast Guard in actual Country, but all other actual Military Branches have been

Desert...take your pick...No one from the Coast Guard has died in either of the Gulf Wars...OEF/OIF Odyssey Dawn etc...face it the coast guard is exactly that..the people that Guard our Coast...and are never deployed/separated from their families like the people in the REAL Military

I went to the movie theater the other day and I showed them my CAC Card and got a Military Discount...a Coast Guardsman showed his and they didn't give him one because the Coast Guard is a part of Homeland Security...not the Department of Defense.
