Herschel Walker ran for 164 yards and a touchdown and Doug Flutie threw for one score and ran for another as the New Jersey Generals defeated the Memphis Showboats 21-18 in a United States Football League game at the Liberty Bowl in Week 9 of the 1985 USFL season.

  • Herschel Walker ran over just about every team he ever faced until he got to the NFL

  • New Jersey GREATEST (and only) football team

  • i love the generals back then. i miss them.

  • Trump killed usel by insisting the play in the fall instead of sticking with spring schedule. look how far ahead usfl was back than 2 point conversion and challenges.

  • whats interesting is that the USFL had two things in use by the NFL now. Instant replay and 2 point conversions.

  • The Showboats must of been from Memphis

  • its truly a shame. thanx to trump and his ego. we could possibly have year round football! the "small market" teams had a chance to have pro football and the major markets filled a void for the summer. hell, the bandits out drew the bucs in tampa! i was a kid back then but i was pissed there was no more summer league. big don had to stir the giants and butt heads with the nfl. just to prove his penis isnt tiny.... thanx to your lacking member and your napolion complex....we lost a great leauge

  • I was there too. As I recall about 47,000 and change at the game. If the original plan had been followed the USFL might still be playing. I liked the spring football concept. D- -n Donald Trump!

  • Heisman Winning Backfield with Herschel Walker & Doug Flutie.
