    Nanzoo, you have to delete the letters (inverse selection) while you are on the textured/paper layer.

    look like you deleted someting on your merged layer because it became with all?

    You should have your paper image selected to delete. If that is a smart object, right click and rasterize the smart object.

    I figured it out! This is what I did: click on the selected letters with the eraser tool, then a pop-up box will appear that says something in the lines of rasterize layer, click yes and then try and delete it. It works! just don't delete it with your eraser tool. Use the delete button :-)
