Roland Emmerich - This is an underrated German made supernatural fantasy fairy tale that tells the story of a little boy named "Joey" ( Joshua Morrell) who's dad recently died and now living with his mother. He still mourns his death, but one night he suddenly gets strange telekinetic powers that make his toys come to life including the ability to communicate with his dead father over a childhood toy telephone. The other kids at school make fun of him because they think he's making up these stories, he also finds a ventriloquist dummy from a old house that belonged to a famous magician, it turns out that it's possessed by a evil being who treatens Joey into a world of a nightmare. Then suddenly his community is attacked by evil forces, he and his friends are the only one to stop the evil.
A highly entertaining and well done fantasy with spectacular special effects and good direction by Roland Emmerich ( the guy who did " Independence Day", " Stargate" and " The Patriot"), the dummy is quite eerie and will guaranteed to give your kids nightmares. This movie does offer humor and some sadness, so bring your tissues cause it may make you cry just like it did to me.
The DVD is well done with trailers, great picture, great sound and widescreen. It includes both the heavily butchered U.S. dubbed version called " Making Contact" and the full length uncut German version called " Joey". I recommend this movie to anyone who loves fantasies and supernatural movies.

"Roland Emmerich"

Joey (aka Making Contact) is a 1985 West German science fiction/horror film from Centropolis Film Productions. The film was co-written and directed by Roland Emmerich. The plot concerns an 11-year old boy (Joshua Morell) who loses his father, but makes contact with what he believes is his deceased parent via a small phone.[1] The boy develops the power of telekinesis, which soon gets out of hand.

  • This is the very first horror movie I have seen in my life. (I was born in 1980) I had so much trouble sleeping the following weeks. My second is "The Gate". Anyone knows where to download the german cut of this awsome movie (Making Contact aka. Joey)? cant find it anywhere.

  • @arcnev a german movie can be filmed in the US.. like an italian movie can also be filmed in the US, "Ghosthouse" (La Casa 3) for instance was filmed in boston.

  • Parts of MAKING CONTACT were filmed in Norfolk, Virgina - look for the Q104 radio station sticker on the door in a scene in the movie - nice shots of Ocean View too. Did not know it was also known as JOEY!?!?! I actually saw this at AMC Circle 4 Theaters.

  • @lalapeniskopf uh it's so good. i might have spent hours searching for it. @aumann1 must have made it himself in his basement because nobody knows it ;) epic at 03:36

  • That dog! "Hey kid, KID! Give me some damn eggs"

  • it's a West German / American co-production...the original language used in the movie was German, but the plot is set to the USA (hence the American co-production).

  • LOL, the trailer looks totally harmless. When I was a kid, this was the scariest movie ever. The puppet was scarier than chucky. It gave me nightmares. And the dead father that calls via telephone, that is not funny.

  • Ah c'mon, it's a german MADE movie. -.-"

    Roland Emmerich is german.

  • @arcnev they like foreign cars over there, too?

  • If this is a German movie why are all the cars, even the parked ones American?
