Great video, can I ask how much time would you spend in one class on this exercise? Or is this purely a LLW class?
-
@cscrignaro That's simply not true. The dog learns to pay attention to the handler and only the handler's clicks. If anything it only helps to improve the dog's focus, not the other way around.
-
With all those clicks I don't think the dogs know which is for them and which isn't. Personally, I wouldn't use clicker training in a group where everyone is using a clicker. The dog will just get confused.
-
but he hears it in our graden when we do exercises,
-
my dalmata of 30 kg even don't hear a clicker when we are out for a walk((((

AMAZIN SCARY AMZING WONDERFUL. IM ESTATC

I wasn't dismissing it at all. I also may toss food selectively on the floor. I would be concerned that certain dogs might spend too much time sniffing the floor and ignoring the handler.

@cathiwinkles @zannabarnowl this isn't a heeling exercise, it's a loose leash walking exercise. At 1:08 the handler with the lab is feeding directly to the mouth. Putting the food on the ground gives you a bit of time to get ahead of your dog so you can reward him for catching up to you, rather than rewarding leash pulling by following it. People would benefit from looking into ideas & getting better informed before dismissing them!

I do a lot of shaping where the food goes on the floor - the dog then has to make the choice to come back into position. Karen Pryor in Clicker Training for Dogs even recommends throwing the treat when you are charging the clicker - so the dog can expect the treat to come from any where and so the movement of bending down to present the treat doesn't become part of the bridge.
The trainer doesn't have to toss the food--you can certainly give it from your hand if you prefer. And as Michael wrote, food treats are faded quickly. Regarding feeding in "heel position", LLW is different from heeling. We define LLW as walking together within a 2-3' radius of either side (owner's choice) without pulling on the leash.
