I first read about this song in a book by a Cork man who signed up to the British Army in 1912, was looking for it for ages. It's by John Frazier (1804-1852). What a lovely sung version by Sean Tyrrell.

Just back for another listen.
I was going to say it would be a good day when the white banner between the green and the orange of the Irish flag was much wider than the other two, but then I thought maybe it would be better if the green and the orange were simply side by side.

Captivating
Such a great song...the futility, tragedy and now hope... for our children...to those of us that lived through those troubled times, it was like a crucifixion watching it al over the years, hard to take..I couldnt...and I left...
I was in Enniskillen yesterday, walked past the War Memorial..please God never again...

It's great to hear such an uplifting song.
I was just watching a tribute to the film maker David Hammond the other night and this song would be a fitting tribute to him and his philosophy.
Thanks for sharing.

David Hammond was a fantastic ambassador for Irish culture. I believe he taught a young "Van Morrison" a love for Irish Traditional music when he was an English Teacher in his early years...Amazing!
