Radio 1 DJ Mark Goodier was still presenting the UK Top 40 show in 2002, but back in 1989 he was one of the station's newest presenters. In the year the Berlin Wall came down on November 9th, and of the Tiananmen Square massacre on 4th June, join Mark as he presents the 50 best-selling singles of 1989. The show was broadcast on Friday 29th December 1989, from 4 to 6:30 pm.

Part 1/17.

(Thanks to JV for these great quality recordings).

  • Excellent stuff & 1989 was a great year for me, so happy memories! Mark Goodier was always a good presenter doing the charts & I lost interest in the Top 40 when he stopped in 2002. The charts are rubbish nowadays anyway, so many thanks for uploading!...

  • all the old school djs on radio 1 have gone, Mark goodier is on Smooth radio, Bruno Brookes and mike read are on Star 107 in glos, Simon Bates is on Classic FM, Steve wright, simon mayo, mark radcliffe, bob harris, jonnie walker, zoe ball and chris evans are all on Radio 2. but wheres DLT? last i knew he was on BBC 3 counties radio.

  • this takes me back to the days when radio 1 was the best. not anymore. its shit now. Radio 2 is now the number 1 listened to station in the UK and has been for the past 10 years will 14 million per week compared with 11 million on radio1. but these are the days when radio 1 stood at 22 million per week before it was ruined in 1993 by mathew bannister.

Does anyone remember having to retune from am (1053/1089) to fm (88-91) to listen to the charts in stereo?

  • whats mark up to now I just read he works on Smooth Radio so why am I asking? Silly me.

  • This is miles better then the likes of Chris Moyles or Chris Evans!

  • Goodier, Brooks, the freaking Gods of 80;s radio....Fuc* Chris Moyles.. the fat fuc*!

  • GOOOOOOOOOOD Moments

  • Thank you for posting this!! 1989 was one of my favourite years in music, and almost all those songs also were SMASH HITS in ARGENTINA, where I was born!

  • Thanks so much for uploading this, brought back some great memories.
