the reverse or back grip or whatever you want to call it, is only practical if you can weild a blade in that fashion, the reverse grip is best suited for close quaters combat and thats probally because you can apply more force to thrusting techniques, like if someone was coming up from behind you could stab them by thrusting in a reverse grip, which will have alot of power because its natural just like pulling on a rope with two hands, reverse grip is simply limited to some techniques.
only practical use is when you have allready defeated any enemy and your finishing him off, thrusting into a wounded or stagered enemy from the other grip has much more force, also it is much more comfortable to sheath the sword after removing the blood while in the other grip, but this is extreamly stupid and dangerous to do during combat, flashy moves should be saved when you know your not in any danger.
@Yourgirlsfavoriteguy There is no practical use. It waste time, leave his entire left side open and the reverse grip only reduce reach. This is a sword trick, just that.
@BlueSaryu i iddnt read many of your comments but not all families do scroll by scroll in mine my grandpa did his by memory only the important 1s are done by memory passed down from father to son but sadly i dont remember mutch but when i return to meet my grandpa i could ask him more about samurai culture if hes not too mad about me choosing to stay and live in america DX

That's pretty much the way I do it, although it's quite difficult with a steel iaito.
