Expressions of Mutual Appreciation and A Few Words from Dr. Edward Maclary, Director of Choral Organizations at The University of Akron, 24 April 1988, Guzzetta Recital Hall, Akron, Ohio. Dr. Maclary received his doctoral degree in conducting with honors from Indiana University after having been awarded a graduate degree in musicology from Boston University. In the following years, he served on the faculties of the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music & Bowling Green State University. Choirs under his direction have toured throughout the United States & Canada & have sung by invitation at the Music Educators National Conference and the American Choral Directors Association. In September 2000, he became Director of Choral Activities at the University of Maryland School of Music & was named Professor of Music in 2006. In addition to leading the graduate studies program in choral conducting at the University of Maryland (UMD), Dr. Maclary conducts the UMD Chamber Singers, the leading ensemble of the School of Music's 6 full-time choirs. Regarded as an outstanding clinician and teacher, Maclary maintains an active schedule as guest conductor for choral festivals & honors choirs throughout the country. He has also served as chorus master for
distinguished conductors such as Robert Shaw, Helmuth Rilling, Iván Fischer, Robert Spano, Paul Goodwin & Bobby McFerrin.
