I've tried salsa and timba and with out a doubt like timba better than salsa because of the way timba was built , its all abou the music not showing off who can spin faster or dance quicker ....timba is all about feeling the music .....really words cant describe it

I agree with blackjojo that in europe you don need some basis to start.cause we are not used to the music. But after learning basic we should make transition into feeling the music.Wher I learnt after first few minutes of 1,2,3 there are no counts.Once you feel the music your body just sways to it.Some people ask me how do i seem to dance with so well as I always seem to be stepping/breaking on 2 3,4,5,6,7,8.Truth is I have no idea which beat i step on I stopped counting long time ago.

Hi, when teaching SALSA everyone truly does it a bit different. I know this is a product and it's for sale, but some of us (Cuban children) just have naturally and it upsets us. Yes, we want ALL to learn to dance and have fun, but truly...Imean...FEEL IT AND forget the counts!

Oh for goodness SAKES ....some of you on here are hilarious. Osbanis is KNOWN as a TREMENDO dancer and TEACHER. ALso, I was BORN in Los Angeles, but both my parents are Cuban and my sister and I have been DACING SALSA since we could walk! I have won MANY salsa competitions and with DIFFERENT PARTNERS. Cuban, Colombians, and Puerto RIcans. Sorry to say, I feel Cubans do dance with a BIT more soul... When teaching others to dance counts are required, but TEACHING to FEEL is when they learn!

I agree with you...even though I'm not Cuban myself.
The "MUSIC" is a powerful tools...you should first feel the music and then start dancing..la clave, timba, the differences of timing, you should appreciate the diversity of the sounds. here in Europe it's an obsession for most of the people thinking whether they should dance on 1, 2, 3 7 or whatever the numbers are. la music es la pasion, la cultura divina.

blackjojo22,
I did not have an agenda or bad intentions when I responded to your post. You seem like a nice person. I hope you figure out/find your answer. Deseando muchas bendiciones...colorín colorado este cuento se ha acabado. Suerte y Ciao

Honestly I dont care what goes on in the commercial world of "cuban or any style" dance. That's the problem w/ anaylzing everything 2 death. I wasn't trying 2 share "logic" or speak on what any teacher "chooses" 2 share. They know that ur there 2 pick their brains 4 profit. You keep telling ME what is "false" and are coming across as knowing it all. IF thats the case why can't u figure out what my little cuban cousins already know without going to workshops? Transmission of Culture? Obligation?
I wonder why all these women move the same way....

I think they move the way that makes them happy. I don't see any reason for not doing this.
