I was actually working at the Blast Furnaces when this promo came out. The recording is of the final showing of the promo following the documentary 'The Final Whistle' it aired on the evening after the workers walked out of the works for the final time in September 1999.

I can't believe it's nearly twelve years since BHP Newcastle shut down. I remember my friend's father worked at the furnaces and after seeing a Knights game with my friend, i would visit his house with his father all covered in soot.

I also believe this was used to celebrate Newcastle's bicentennial as well. I remember that year well (I started high school in 1997) - the Knights won and BHP announced plans to shut the steelworks down. Talk about your highs and lows.
