Jacoby's opening statements (part 2) in the debate on the question "Jesus: Man, Myth or Messiah? was sponsored by the Apologetics Research Society (ARS) as part of its 2009 International Christian Evidences Conference. Houston Baptist University was the venue for this cordial but spirited debate. . Douglas Jacoby argued in the affirmative. The Historical Jesus and the Christ of Faith are one and the same. Self-styled Christian atheist Robert Price claimed that the New Testament picture of Jesus is legendary, paralleled by myths in other ancient religions. An irony of the debate is that Douglas Jacoby received his Masters in Theological Studies in New Testament from (liberal) Harvard Divinity School, while Robert Price received his Masters in Theological Studies in New Testament from (conservative) Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Both speakers have doctorates from Drew University. You will find the exchange both engaging and enlightening. It will build your faith in the reliability of the Bible and in Jesus Christ. Among his books are Genesis, Science and History, Shining like Stars, The Quiver, and Jesus and Islam. He is principal instructor in the Athens Institute of Ministry. His interests include cosmology, biology, world religions, and ancient languages. Jacoby holds degrees from Duke, Harvard, and Drew. His websites are douglasjacoby.com and jacobypremium.com. DR. ROBERT PRICE is a Fellow of the Jesus Seminar, Professor of Theology and Scriptural Studies at Johnnie Colemon Theological Seminary, and Research Fellow at the Center for Inquiry Institute. Price is a prolific writer, and his books include Beyond Born Again, Deconstructing Jesus, and The Incredible Shrinking Son of Man. He serves as editor of The Journal of Higher Criticism. He holds two PhDs from Drew University.

  • Are you going to be posting the rest of the debate? It just got started, and I don't see the rest--Robert Price only started his 15-minute segment and then...? Perhaps I've simply overlooked the remaining segments? Please link them all together so viewers can follow the whole debate. Thank you!

  • Perhaps Price's criticism was too devastating to post?

  • @mexwonderful Nonsense. It's a public debate. Go ahead and search Youtube for other ones. Both sides are almost always posted. The only exception would be if someone explicitly required his side of the debate not be published. It's plain bad form to only publish your side of an argument otherwise.

  • Price can post his own side if he wants.

  • Douglas Jacoby is right in not posting Price's argument. It comes down to a legal matter. Since Douglas posted this video himself, he can only legally post segments of his own input to the debate as he does not own rights to Price's commentary. Doug is an intelligent man and was smart in doing this. I've seen and heard many of these debates and It is doubtful that he would not have posted the opposing argument if he had rights to do so.

  • Seriously weak to not post the entire debate. Not even providing a link to the full debate if one exist. Price would easily destroy most if not all of the arguments put forth.

  • where's the rest?

  • I wasted 8 minutes of my life

  • Yes, Robert Price was too big a threat to face. He would have exposed all the absurdities this guy so boldly proclaims. Better not to publish him.

  • @Politicimo I watched it to see how much I could refute myself. His claim that Jesus was "well adjusted" falls flat when you examine how he rejected his family on several occasions (Luke 2:42-50, Mtt. 10:34-37). This would raise any number of red flags with modern psychiatrists. It also fits with schizotypal personality disorder, which is a disorder frequently found in cult leaders. Do a search on "benign schizotypy" and "cult".

  • I refuse to watch this until Robert Price's side is posted. PATHETIC behaviour.

  • What a disgusting sham! This guy just posts his side of the argument and ignores the response. Typical of Christians everywhere, who say what they believe and then stick their fingers in their ears when you take the trouble to point out the errors in their beliefs.
