Los saharauis han sido dominados por el poder colonial español. Pero justo cuando iban a alcanzar la independencia(España recién se había retirado), Marruecos lo invadió y anexo. El pueblo saharaui resiste dentro de los territorios ocupados y en su exilio de Argelia (campamentos en el desierto) Se reconoce la solidaridad de los pueblos del mundo(incluido los españoles solidarios) y algunos gobiernos.
