My Name is Barack Obama - "My Country"

Many Americans identify with Sen. Barack Obama. They see in him an extraordinary person who not only embodies their hopes and aspirations, but even their faults and contradictions. And although he is surely an historic, transcendent figure, he is still just a man - albeit a unique one with whom many feel a connection and are inspired. I would be among that group.

And so, for the possibility that we may gather behind this man, celebrate what inspires us, and find not a road that divides us, but threads that connect us, I offer these excerpts from my poem, "My Name is Barack Obama" © 2008.
