Premier Wen Jiabao has begun a three-day official visit to Kazakhastan. During his visit, he's scheduled to attend the Prime Ministers meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Top Kazakh government officials welcomed Premier Wen Jiabao.

In a written statement released upon his arrival at Astana's airport on Wednesday, Wen spoke highly of the sound development of Sino-Kazakh relations during the last 16 years.

He said his current visit is aimed at promoting mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples, enhancing substantial bilateral cooperation, and pushing forward the development of the bilateral strategic partnership which was set up in 2005.

During the visit, Wen will have an in-depth exchange of views with Kazakh leaders on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern. He will also discuss the promotion of cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization with his counterparts from other SCO member states.
The Chinese premier also expressed the belief that his visit would be a success, given the efforts by both sides.

Later, Premier Wen met officials of China's embassy to Kazakhstan, and representatives of Chinese organizations here.

Kazakhstan is the second leg of Wen Jaibao's two-nation tour.

Before leaving Russia, Premier Wen visited the space research center. Wen praised Russian achievements in space research, and said space is the new field of bilateral tech cooperation. Premier Wen also answered questions from the Russian media.
