Excellent primer for beginners: http://tinyurl.com/modelrailroad
My Web Site: http://modelrr.oakviewresources.com/
I ran the source videos through a video enhancer and recompiled them at a higher bit rate. Both the sound and the video are somewhat better(you'll need to watch them in High Quality mode).
This is part 4 of a multi- part tutorial of doing Model Railroad Scenery using extruded construction foam. Yes you get to see more of a grown man carving pink foam...

  • There was no information on initial cutting and gluing down the foam sheets. Still, this is a very good video and well worth the time.

  • Yeah, I know. I got the idea to shoot these videos about 6 years ago when I already had everything glued down. I'm glad you found it helpful.

  • I shot the videos about 6 years ago (before there was a youtube). I got the idea of recording the videos and posting to an N scale forum I was a member of at the time. At that time I was already done with cutting and gluing the foam.

  • When you ask someone at a train show how they did their scenery and they just say "carved foam" and smile, now we see how it can actually be done!

    Thanks for posting these!

  • Thanks!

  • you have a good eye for making the foam look like natural rock.

Also after you've finished a mountain and look do you ever go and glue more foam to chaange it.

  • @cjr3559 Ever consider "Great Stuff" the expanding foam?

It works great for making large naturally shaped rocks. Just another Idea to play with. 1 can will go a long ways. Use card board to make your basic shape then just surface coat the card board and watch it puff.

  • I am from Brazil and I think there really cool people like you who cares about teaching parabens (sorry if I typed something wrong is why I used the google translator) I do not know how to speak English.
