Part 28 GUCCI - True fact! My collection of Gucci silks dates back to the first collections launched in the late 60's "The brightly colored floral scarves where first made in 1966, after Princess Grace visited the Milan store. The first scarf was presented to her as a gift. At that time Gucci had just begun making leather clothing, and now they branched off into silk dresses, made from printed silk in designs similar to the scarves. 1968 brought about the introduction of the ultimate Gucci status symbol, the shoe decorated with the snaffle bit. The double G monogramed fabric was brought out in 1969"

The House of Gucci, better known simply as Gucci, is an Italian iconic fashion and leather goods label. It was founded by Guccio Gucci (b.1881 -- d.1953) in Florence in 1921.

"Francisco Medavogs collection started off as a small sampling of some European couture designs to help him study FASHION design. By looking at the French seams and other intricacies, he learned about couture construction through the true masters of design. This hobby quickly became a collection of more than 25,000 fashion items, primarily 20th century European designs, with a number of them extending back to the 1920s and 30s.

"At first, I didn't quite understand why so many people were interested in seeing these clothes," says Francisco. "For me, the clothes were simply great examples of what I was able to study while at the Fashion Institute. Now, I feel that my collection is the beginning of a wonderful museum collection."

"I'd love to open the first American Fashion Museum, devoted solely to fashion and couture, similar to Zandra Rhodes' museum in London."

  • Hey Medavog, I realize this is an old collection, but I am daring to ask. I was wondering if you perhaps have seen any of the Gucci Babouska studded belts and one particular handbag, it is the Babouska studded with the studs all over it and tassel in black. I have seen all the other bags but not this one for sale. Although the collection is from 2008-2009 I still love the design. I am my own trend and fall in line where I fall.

    Thanks if you can help.
