pero disagree ako sa sinabi niya na if your tagalog you learn a lot faster to speak cebuano or vice versa because their closer with each other but i find it amusing that somehow, cebuano and ilokano has a lot of similarities. I'm an ilokano and i learn fast in speaking visaya. my aunt speaks ilokano, visaya, ilonggo, maguindanao, maranao and they all live in mindanao. but agree ako dun somehow na if you came from the north you had a hard time learning, Lol my tagalog is very worst!

agree ako dun, the more you push tagalog the more it endangers the other dialect. i agree on that also that you should have your base language. kita ko mga next generation na Ilokano na tumira sa manila, d na nila alam magsalita ng ilokano, kakalungkot! go to bilingual education. That's a ton of research you did their Dr. Paz, mabuhay ka! more power sa lahi na kagaya mo.

@AirborneChainsaw True, but the languages are dying. Endangered Filipino languages about to go extinct: Alabat Island Agta language, Isarog Agta language, Northern Alta language, Arta language, Ayta-Sorsogon language, Ratagnon language. The longer Filipinos deny the negative effects of pushing the national language, the more languages will be put in danger of linguistic extinction.

It makes me sad that we have extinct language in the Philippines...we should encourage our children and promote to them to speak their own language...

tagalog is only a small % of the philippine island that speaks of -only in manila.but the whole island has much languages ,even in manila it has other language.but it was made a nat'l language therefore tagalog is only a representative language so still tagalog will be taught in school even its a local lang.

@netjap23: Is there really a need to solidify the islands when we all have our own identities to begin with?
-

I don't know about dying but it is important we keep all of our languages.
Dr. Paz most definitely encourages us to know and keep our unique heritage languages alive.
In fact, the young man from the video comes from a Waray-Waray family and Dr. Paz has encouraged him and his brother and sister to continue learning Tagalog/Filipino but to be sure to learn and USE Waray-Wary everyday.
It's hard when they are so far away from the native source but it is important all the same.
