This reinforced concrete structure was the largest of its kind ever built when it went into service in 1915 on the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. The bridge, 2,375 feet long and rising 240 feet above Tunkhannock Creek, was the focal point of a 39.6-mile relocation between Clarks Summit and Hallstead. The novelist Theodore Dreiser called this viaduct one of the true wonders of the world."

  • i grew up on station hill right next to this beast

  • It is a very impressive sight. We went into the gas station below it and enjoyed looking at the pictures taken during the construction of it.

  • @traysea77 The legend says that one of the workers fell into the concrete as it was being poured and his body is buried in the bridge. It isn't true. In fact there were no deaths while it was being built.

  • beautiful :)) i am going to visit there this summerr

  • ah the old guy and his mule legend..yes...you can see where his feet are on the back side away from town...

    kidding

  • I know there is a legend surrounding a body being inside the bridge..could anyone refresh my memory on this story??

  • ea ive been there a million times... its why route 11 is called tunnel hill... there actually multiple roads.. one coming from factoryville one up the hill on the right where the old station once sat. although right now they seem to be clear cutting the woods for some odd reason

  • when is it?

  • You know there's a road to the bridge, but I wouldn't go on it.

& there is a Nicholson Tunnel behind you about a mile.

  • yea they have books wrote on it. also every year the celebrate bridge day..and main street is shut down
