I loved him.
I know, Joe nodded. Hes a great guy.
She glared at him. They were lying on their backs on a grassy park lawn in New York, in between takes of a photoshoot. And between flashing a gapless smile for the camera, she was ruminating to Joe.
I mean, besides dumping you in Paris, the most romantic city on earth. Joe stammered.
Nice save.
Look, I know youre upset, but you just have to look on the bright side!
What bright side? Joe, I got dumped by the love of my life.
Really? Because I dont think most people find the love of their lives at 16. Just sayin.
So whats the bright side? Demi rolled over and gazed at the many taxis zoom by on the busy street.
Well, Joe didnt think she was actually going to ask him. He sat up and re-tied his shoelaces, trying to buy time.
Think of all the great things youve gotten to do this year! He said, finally. I mean, you got to sing the national anthem, go on tour not once—but twice with us, you will be in our concert movie--plus you and Selena shot your own-- and lets not forget about your album. You wrote and recorded it all for the world to hear.
Demi flashed a grin. You helped, she corrected.
We all did.
And though she loved them like the brothers she never had, Demi couldnt help feeling lonely. She was like any normal girl, always searching for the perfect guy. Cody had seemed so close. But though she didnt read them, the tabloid headlines said it all. They had documented well her first date with Cody at the steakhouse. And they had exploited the couple so much that her relationship with him inevitably weakened. Distance didnt make the heart grow stronger; it made the heart forget.
