  • I: In which countries do you think your music in best interpreted?

S: In England. Also in Sweden.

    I: Indeed.

S: But, of course, in Finland; where traditions so live. I have been noticing, that the more my music is played, the better those tempos start to go.

    end:

I: If some young composer would ask your advice for his work, then what would you say to him?

S: Do not ever write any unnecessary note, for you have to live every note.

  • @yeahllowraincoats

Thank you very much for that information.

  • @ChalieChaplin For example, he says that his music is best interpreted in England. He asks young composers not to write any purposeless notes because each note has to live. By the way, it can be heard that Finnish wasn't his mother tongue. Sibelius was a Swedish speaking Finn.

  • and the end:

I: Jos teidän luoksenne tulisi jokin nuori säveltäjä ja kysyisi teiltä neuvoa työlleen, mitä te silloin sanoisitte hänelle?

S: Älkää koskaan kirjoittako mitään tarpeetonta nuottia, sillä jokainen nuotti pitää elää.

  • Here the clip written in Finnish

0:02 Interviewer: Missä maissa muuten, öö, teidän mielestänne parhaiten tulkitaan teidän omaa musiikkianne?

    Sibelius: Englannissa. Ja myöskin Ruotsissa

    I: Aivan.

S: Paitsi tietysti Suomessa, jossa traditiot niin elävät. Olen ollu huomaavinani, se mitä enemmän minun musiikkiani soittaa, sitä oikeammin nuo tempot alkavat mennä.

  • I wish i had the whole interview...

  • Thanks Mahtivaari,

    What else is he saying??
