Ridge soaring at Point of the mountian, Utah, USA with a Bio Air Skim15 speed wing. Wind speeds on top of the 300 foot hill were 25mph. This was the Pilots first time hooking into a SkiM.

With the wind speeds at 25mph, the wing looks slow, but a regular paraglider would just be parked into the wind.

  • The wind was not 25 at the base of the hill, but was ROCKING on the top. Also for a 14M wing to ridge soar with a 175lbs pilot plus gear, how much wind do you think is needed? The Skim is an easy wing to kite in strong winds. Try one, or any speed wing and you'll understand the video with more clarity.

  • Your right, it's probably NOT 25, but 26+, if you knew the site, you would know if the paragliders are not up, and you see a hang glider, it's blown out. The hang glider is one of Utah's best flying a fast wing, and the speed flier pilot is also one of Utah's best. You can CLEARLY see when the speed wing lands on top of the bench, he had to grab lots of "A"riser to be able to make it out front again with the SMALL wing. Hopefully this will help you in your logic process, it needs POLISH :)

  • Dude, You f*cking ROCK!!! That is sooooo cool. I want one. I've been flying "normal" paragliders for 13 years and have literally worn out 4 gliders, including 3 comp gliders. I f*cking hate it when my ridge gets blown out. I think this is a natural progression. I've read many of your posts on the forum and I take my hat off to you for being civil to all the nay-sayers. You have more patience than I have. I'd really dig flying with you, man. Cheers,

    -Dave

  • I should be flying again in a couple of months, I broke both legs and my back flying a full sized glider many months ago, but this week I'm finally walking for the first time without aids. :)

We will see more progression in the smaller wings in the short term. I think I see an IBEX19 in my future as well. I sold my SKIM15, it was just a bit too small for my needs.

Tks for the nice post, it lifted my spirits, and I can't wait to fly again.

  • Where do you get the Skim15? It looks less twitchy that the Nano.

  • The wing is made by Bio Air in France, 0eden0 from above is an importer for parts of Europe, and here is a link to the US importer:discoverparagliding(dot)com

I'm selling mine for $900 if your looking for one. The nano is really used for skiing, but have seen many skilled pilots foot launching the nano and having a blast. With this skim, ridge soaring would come at much less wind speed, but could still soar when the wind is strong enough for the nano's to be ridge soaring.
