http:///www.riverwired.com - This just in! Switching to alternative fuel for the home is officially completely easy. Pulse travels to Asheville, NC to find out how one community has already made the switch to biodiesel for home heating. Everyone's talking about how biodiesel is non-toxic, made from renewable resources, known to reduce engine wear, and possible to produce from your own home. So we talked to the guys at Blue Ridge Biofuels, as well as biodiesel-using homeowners, to get a first hand look at alternative energy use in action. On the way, we found out how throwaways from restaurants can fuel a community, what famous rock musician can't go without biodiesel when she's out on the road, and much more!
There was nothing in this vid about cost comparisons or what must be done to allow your oil fired furnace to run on bio D. I applaud the efforts and would like to see more of this in the future for the US. However, it seems to me that the process is a bit of an energy hog to produce the product.

Popular Science once had an article on a concept where a home had an automobile engine running on natural gas, that not only produce the heat for the home, but also electricity. Biodiesel would seem to be a better fuel source for such a concept. Think about it with a traditional heater the only energy you are capturing is the heat, why not capture the power of the heat with an engine?
