  • Yudoff is an idiot! During these hard times they penalize the faculty, staff and students by reaching into their already strained pockets for "Bailout money." At the same time he lent California 200 million and gave the top UC executives huge raises and bonuses. He is no better than the CEOs of the banking industry! Impeach his A**!

  • UC raised $199.8 million through sale of short-term commercial paper and purchased a state bond, enabling the state to resume funding of the voter-approved projects.

In March, Regents approved more restrictions on bonuses and incentive pay, on top of the senior-level salary freeze and bonus restrictions adopted in January.

  • No audio at all!! Too bad I don't have any idea what's his talking about..... It may be a reason....

  • More money for Universities and less for prisons? What a novel idea. Why are we spending 12k/year on average more per inmate than per child in our public school systems in California anyway? Do we really have our heads screwed on that far backwards?

  • This is a bit hopeful, for the first time in a while. But what is not addressed here is that the fundamental problem with UC and UC budgets is the dysfunctionality of the Legislature and CA politics. Without fundamental reform of these (including removing the 60%+ majority needed for a budget which gives the Neanderthal "no taxes; cut crucial services instead" faction veto power), all fixes for UC are band-aids but not real solutions.

  • ummm... why so much gesticulating? does it enhance your legitimacy?

  • Hey egghead, stop lying to UC students. Thanks to you and your Regent idiots, I cannot get into a single politics or science class. Thank you for opening my eyes and allowing me to get involved in politics. Maybe we could fix this situation if we sent you idiots to prison and let the prisoners get an education.

    Take Back Your University.

  • Current Threats to University of California Dont Come From the Outside - $3 Million Extravagant Spending by UC President Yudof for University of California Berkeley Chancellor Birgeneau to Hire Consultants - When Work Can Be Done Internally & Impartially

During the days of the Great Recession, every dollar in higher education counts.

  • remember how just a few months ago, UCSF and another UC hired new chancellors? Remember how the the people at the top decided to offer those new chancellors increased salaries from what the previous chancellors were being paid (at those respective schools)? that was in the summer of 2009. HOW ABOUT RETHINKING STUPID STUFF LIKE THAT?!

  • He looks like he just ate a pickle. Something tells me he doesn't savor the taste of the words passing over his gums.

  • Haha, at least Yudof can read, right? Way to add insult to injury.

  • There ain't any jobs in California. Its so dam hard to get a minimum wage down here its pathetic. Reinvesting in the educational system in California is pathetic as well b/c there ain't jack solutions to it. Just more spending and mad dough for these institutions (like the UC's) that cling to student's money and zero opportunities after you graduate.

  • Oh really... pathetic? Sounds like you left college before the budget crisis and now that you have yours, you couldn't care less about others after you. And you're concerned about feeding your family? Try feeding your family AND sending your kids to college. Raise tuition and cut back spending? Good one, alumni.

  • The primary reason that we spend so much on prisons is because we send far too many people to jail for minor infractions. It increases the likelihood that they return to crime and costs California more than if they were put in a University instead. I know drug offenders that could have been thrown in prison, but instead are now productive tax paying citizens instead because they were not thrown in prison.

  • Pathetic. Stop whining about money. Raise tuition or cut spending - join the world in which the rest of us live.

California has the highest state taxes in the nation. We just had the largest tax increase in the history of the nation. In LA, our sales tax has increased from 8.25% to 10.25%.

STOP STEALING MY MONEY. I have a family to feed and a retirement for which to save.

    Freakin' pathetic
