Nickie was hatched with his head turned completely around with his beak facing backwards!  He was at a local pet store, and the owner decided that she wouldn't sell or give him away to anyone; he would just live at the store. For a couple of years, he lived at the store in the "Baby Room",
where baby birds were handfed and visited by prospective owners. Nickie was alone, and watched as people came and went, and when someone would try to stick their fingers in his cage as a well-meant, but misguided, attempt at a greeting, Nickie would inevitably nip them!

Then one day I walked into the baby room, and I spotted Nickie and he spotted me; it was like hearts were popping out of our eyes as we looked at each other for the first time!
I was warned that he would probably bite me if I tried to pick him up: he didn't!

In fact, I picked him up and he gently beaked my face and when an employee walked over to us, Nickie attacked her!
The owner of the store agreed to allow me
to finally adopt Nickie and the two of us are very happy!

His Vet, Dr. Speer made a special cervical collar that (because he was so young and his bones were still "soft" worked to turn his head gently around).  Nickie personifies what everyone deserves in their life: " A Second Chance!"  He is the most wonderful, loving companion that
anyone could be blessed with!

  • its like the birds choose the owners, not you choosing the bird, you made it have a very happy life :)

  • god bless you

  • Aw he's a sweetheart. Is he dancing to the music or was that put on after? He's a beautiful bird

  • Beautiful bird! Good for you for pursuing them to let you adopt her. :)

  • I am so happy for Nickie that he finally found you and he is happy. Funny how things happen and funny how you took to each other so nicely and immediately like he was waiting for you. :)Thats just how things are sometimes.

  • do you find it difficult taking care of him? How is his balance and equilibrium? He certainly looks very happy, and it was good of you to give him a second chance and give him a happy home.

  • Awe he is so cute! :)
