Hi everyone! I wanted to sell this guitar but then i decided to keep it. I did a little experiment and bought a new gretsch high sensitive filtertron pickup. I got it on ebay, the price was just 57$ without shipping. I was hoping to get the similar sound as Malcolm Young from acdc. And the result is beyond expectations this pickup made this guitar alive, i love to play it now and i hardly ever pickup my gibson sg these days :D I will put on a thicker strings in the future to get even closer with the sound and i have to figure out how to place the pickup in the guitar for more eye friendly look :D It looks ugly now, i know but this is just a temporary solution!

Sorry for my sloppy playing and my bad, bad video editing skills ;D I hope the video is not too long, i'm just playing some malcolm young style riffs, some of them are not accurate... I cut some stuff out to make the video shorter.

Guitar: ESP LTD ec-400at with HS filtertron in the bridge position!
No amp: Guitar rig 4

I hope you like the sound, it would be closer with a gretsch guitar but i think it's ok with this guitar!

  • Hey dude, is this just a bog standard cheap HS Filtertron?. I have ordered a Grtesch electromatic double jet and am already thinking of changing the pickups!. And did you have to make a mount for it? you can get a bezel to go round the pickup so it looks neater!

  • @HutchinsonNeil Yes, a standard hs filtertron for about 50$. Changing pickups it's a great idea, look for user snookerkingexe on youtube he's done the same thing with his electromatic, perhaps he will give you more info how to do it. I made a mount in a very gipsy way :D I just put a pice of xps insulation foam underneath to get the right height and than taped it to the body of the guitar. I am still finding a way to mount this pickup without tape and with the ability to adjust height.

  • @MBString I would rather have a pickup mounted without a bezel, like malcolm.

  • how can i make that guitar rig 4 preset?? i will buy a gretsch electromatic double jet with filtertrons and I NEED to play with THAT sound ^^

  • @Solidusangus you can make it with jump amp in guitar rig and try different cabinets. Its very simple you don't need a lot of stuff, just play with the settings and keep overdrive/gain very low;) Or i can send you my preset if you want?

  • @MBString, what's the name of the store on ebay where you boughi it?

  • @Electry257 yes it's called lighthouse_sound their website is lhsound dot com

  • Can I use Guitar rig with a onbord sound card?

  • Dude could you send me the preset you are using for Guitar Rig? Cause i've been struggeling to get the right tone and it sounds like you almost nailed it :D

  • SPOILIN' FOR A FIGHT !

  • Great Sound man! I have a Ibanez STM1 that I bought mainly because of the shape, but their dimmarzio evo are too modern and don't heavy warm and beautifull high ends when I use it with my custom made Plexi, it's too "pitchy" if you know what I mean. You video showed me just what i need to do to get the tone I want. Thanks!

  • There is just something about the pickups that Gretsch uses that makes them amazing! Idk but i love the tone your getting out of the filtertron.

  • Love the sound a lot!! Love Gretsches!! :D Tested a Gretsch Duo Jet today... amazing sound!! Love the Filtertrons!! :p I would be very gratfeull if u could send me the Guitar Rig 4-preset!! Grtz, J-L

  • great sound dude :)
