if the only things these companies do, is convert chinese or small japanese hatchbacks to electric, im staying with either gas or diesel.

The battery technology is here now, lithium ion. They are a tremendous improvement over lead acid which is the traditional battery used to start gas engines. They are much much lighter and hold a much longer charge for the same size as a lead acid. All professionally made electric cars are being produced with this technology. The do-it-yourself home kits dont bc they are more expensive. Not much though.

I dont know why people try to demonise oil companies. OIl companies make our lives easier. The car u shown also uses fuel. why it will upset oil companies.
Question is only the technology. Demand always creates a supply. We are addicted to oil, thats oil companies find more oil to satify the damand.
Problem with electgric cars is the battery technology and infrastructure uptosome extent. Once we have high efficincy batteries find their way in electric cars, you will seldom fine gas cars
