A video fact check of Obama's DNC speech. Useful, if you want to prove to doubters that Obama was being accurate.

Contrast this to the McCain campaign's constant stream of lies and distortions in their TV ads....

  • One of my main concerns about the "bailout" plan is that the US taxpayers would be essentially buying mortgage-backed securities--a flawed financial instrument that has already proven a failure--at above-market rates. Is this what we want Bush's ironically "big government" to do?

Those who call this socialism are wrong (mind you, I think socialism is OK for some things). The proposal from Paulson was a call to fund the Wall St. elites who got us into this mess, while stifling oversight!

  • Americans whine when they can't afford to buy the latest video game, the latest iPod, mobile phone, or big screen TV. They blow their money on 50 dollar video games and wonder why they don't have money for health insurance.

  • Ah, you have a point. But on the other hand, buying all those gadgets and luxuries are what keep the modern US economy going. We are constantly bombarded by the imperative to consume! And, of course, those most affected by the recession are NOT those who own iPods and plasma TVs, but those who work multiple jobs and STILL can't afford health insurance. Those folks aren't "whining"; they are airing legitimate grievances about the unbalanced opportunities in the economy.

  • Yes, those democratic politices to almost grant loans for housing like it was a right. Owning is not a right, it is a financial responsibility and clearly loans were given with almost zero down and now look what happened. Did you forget that in 2003 the Bush adminstration tried to regulate this more? Did you forget that in 2005 McCain tried to increase the regulation on this?? But wait a few republicans and the majority of democrats blocked this. Yes, the alarm was sounded but no one listened

  • Hmm... who actually owns their house anymore? Taking on a mortgage isn't "ownership." It's assuming debt.

But anyway, army, could you offer us some details about those 2003 and 2005 votes that you talk about, so we can do some factchecking of our own about the party votes? In 2005, the Republicans had the majority, so it would have taken more than a few Republicans to block regulation...

    Specifics, please?

  • As far as having a "Mental Depression" there is truth in that as well. Stocks go up and down based off consumer confidence (spending), and future company outlooks.

Outside factors as well, such as media hype, government influences, and not saving also contribute to a sense that things are going down the tubes.

  • There is some truth to the fact that we have become like a "nation of whiners" when discussing the financial issues by Mr. Gramm. I have heard, and seen that some of the poorest in our country have more than most. (eg. big screen tv's in poor areas). Opportunities are endless.

  • source of info = sociology, james Henslin, 2007 Person

  • i read on and saw the argument about the poverty line and welfare.

poverty line= spends 1/5 of their income on food

welfare can't be a lifestyle b/c it can only be received for 5 years max. 17% go beyond 4 years.

and poverty is caused by social structure more than laziness. For instance, high school diploma and lower contribute to 70% of the poverty. But what are people worth anyway?

  • what facts Prayitsnotobama? back your sh*t up before you go off on a war path... because if you're wrong these claims make you the one that's deceitful. It then makes you a hypocrite which then means all the condemnation you spout actually redirects to yourself.

You read those republican email forwards don't you?...

it's hard to find real info but you have to actually try

  • Barack Obama has ties to several extreme radicalists! Like the Palestinian radicalist from Columbia University. Barack was his frequent dinner guest! SCARY SHIT! And the democrats follow him like brainless little lemmings. Truth hurts, you democrats can try to deny Obama's links to radicalists and terrorists but facts are facts! HE IS AN EXTREMIST AMERICAN/ISRAELI HATER! Go ahead and ruin this country by voting for him. I'd die first!

  • Yes, it's true both sides play politics as you can do the same with what McCain has said so yes be sure before YOU vote.Eight years is enough of one party. The problem is with our election system because Dems and rep both feed off each other to get in power back and forth. The system needs to change from this my team mentality to one that gets the best we have. Ron Paul would have been nice but he speaks the truth, between McCain and Obama Obama is the better choice(Palin is not ready- scary)

  • Did you even hear Bill Clinton say that yes the democrats held up the legislation that could have prevented this!? Did you find where McCain co-sponsored that bill in 2005 on this very issue, against democrats and some republicans. I'm glad you said the "democraps" blocket it, however there are also "republicraps" to blame. Our govt required loans to be given to people who had no business getting loans and now everyone is complaining. The business world understood this, the govt did not.

  • i have checked the facts and in the facts i found out mccain helped to pass deregulation bills that helped lead to this problem in the first place yes democraps blocked this but i supect it was for a more political agenda whice i will refer to as this current financial 9/11 but listen to me and im sure youve seen the fundamentals of or economy are strong..... and now mccain wants to postpone the debates i think his new stratigy his to keep his mouth closed
