just because he was a "mess" does not mean he was a train wreck during all of these shows. Yes - he might have had some "bad days" but realize this: who doesn't???

omg Elton looks like a mess. I think he dyed his hair to mock ageness and death. Even though he got cleaned up, the drugs have taken their toll on him. Right before his friendship with Ryan White Elton suffered a lot: Tabloids, his marriage fell apart, heavier drug adictions and loss of his falsetto. His boyfriend left him etc etc. I guess at that point he didn't care about himself. His love for music was the only thing that kept him going.
