i really love this film....thanks so much for uploadin it....this is my first time watchin it...i'm a huge David Thewlis fan so....yeah...this is certainly his best work...one of the greatest films i've ever seen.....

i had a feeling he'd leave and take the money, but i was really hoping he would stay and leave with the girl when she got back , i love david thewlis and love his character in this he cracks me up, cept for the rapist side of him.

Someone should do a trailer mashup of this to make it look like a typical american farrely brothers comedy! If they pull it off they should win an oscar!

I saw this film when it first came out at the Angelica in New York City... to watch it again after all these years... WOW! Leigh is a genius. I have seen all of his released films so far. I know he did some material for British T.V. prior...
It saddens me that most of the so called genius Hollywood directors can't hold a candle to Mike Leigh. They are so fucking overrated! Looking forward to his new film with Jim Broadbent... should be opening up in San Francisco any day now...

@eddypfunk Well put. I saw it 1997 when I was 29 going on 21. This is just life all around the world in this one part of London. It took me till I was in my late 30s before I finally realised it's the same crap the world over.

i watched this first in my twenties and it seemed so cynical and depressing, now in my late thirties it just seems like one side of reality. the other sides arent much better.
