Char rope is great stuff. I've been experimenting with it, using it in a fire piston I built, starting fires and such. What I'd like to share with you is the best material I've found to make char rope is-- a mop head. You can buy them at Lowe's for about 5 bucks. They're made of 1/8 inch, 100% cotton ropes. Just cut some strands off and char them like you normally would. Unbelievably effiecient.

Nice, thanks for sharing. I think I have watched them all now... Loved em, thanks for the information!
If you could only take one with you Char rope or cloth, which would you choose?

Hard to say really....I guess it would be char rope. It holds together better than char cloth, and seems to have a better ember when the hole piece is glowing. Of coarse I think it is mostly a matter of opinion.

I hope you picked up that metal piece you tore off the lighter. Remember - leave nothing but footprints.
