  • I think this should be added as the optional feature. It is clear that it cannot use this easily if the graphic function is insufficient.

  • This is not an effect of Compiz but new features included of Gnome. Maybe, direct rendering is not used.

  • I started with liveCD, and installed gnomeshell

    referring to live-gnome-org/GnomeShell

    (Please replace - to . ).

  • Jeez people, don't have your period. -_- This ain't the Windows world. As is with anything else in the linux world - nobody's forcing you to use anything that you don't like.

You think the new Gnome shell's a bad idea? Just disable/remove it when you have to deal with it. Kinda like what you can do with Compiz right now.

Just because you think it's a bad idea, don't ruin it for people who actually WILL find it useful. Sheesh.

  • I really don't like this GNOME Shell. I hope it will never be the default interface. Otherwise I'll move to Xfce the day GNOME Shell will be introduced.

i use multiple desktops. I enabled 4 just for the compiz effect after i got bored of staring at the cube i just left 2 enabled. That's about as many as I need (2) to be honest. It comes in handy becuase when I do audio editing it takes up the whole screen (several plugins gui, jack, ardour, audacity[to edit/playback audio files via jack] and so much more). On the next desktop i might open up Chrome to look up guides or chek msgs. So you see multiple desktops are a + with me. :)

  • wow im probably just going to switch to kde.

  • Is it really "moving forward". Looks more like sideways/backwards from this video. How many people for example actually use multiple desktops? They are not switched on now by default in ubuntu 10.04 and I suspect most people don't use them

  • Me either, LXDE ftw :D

  • GNOME 3.0's overlay usage is probably the best-thought-out software I have ever seen, besides the button-method for navigating a folder tree (which windows stole from Linux with the release of Vista)

  • you have no sense of what software's original intent was supposed to be--to work FOR humans, instead of making humans work for software. KDE isn't quite there yet. It needs some help.

  • It's an optional thing...

  • cool!

  • haha yeah that's me! :)

    I'll add you!
