Police used batons to break up a protest by about 200 Tibetan exiles, including monks and nuns, who staged a brief protest in front of the United Nations office in Kathmandu. Protesters carried placards reading "Stop Genocide in Tibet" and "China showing true brutal nature". They demanded "free Tibet" and chanted anti-China slogans. Heres more.
STORY:
At first the protesters, who were supporting a hunger strike by 11 activists, sat in a line by the UN Development Programmed UNDP office.
The United Nations said it was "very concerned" over the police using, in some instances, "excessive" force to disperse the protests that took place in front of the (UNDP) building in the capital. A top UN official said police had not been requested by the world body to intervene in the peaceful protests.
A number of the demonstrators were arrested and placed in vans. Monks were among those arrested.
The demonstrators said the 11 activists would continue their hunger strike if the United Nations does not act to meet demands to stop the deaths of protesters in Tibet, and free all prisoners of conscience.
[Woman Activist];
"We don't have a country, they killed people in our country including children."
[Demonstrator];
"We need human rights. Is this the human rights, that they are facing over here?. This is not a human right. Look how they treat humans, and especially the way they treat women. Is this the way they should beat us in front of UN office."
More than 20,000 Tibetans have been living in Nepal since 1959, when they fled after a failed uprising against China.

And Nepali police should not be breaking up non-violent protests by beatings and arrests, as apparently even the UN was against the actions of the police. If Tibetans are being killed in Tibet by Chinese that is completely unacceptable.

To those others in support of Tibet, even if others criticize you or speak against you, respond peacefully, though with protest, and not in the same disrespectful manner those against you may speak to you. Communicate with the values the Dalai Lama has been teaching, and strive for peace and compassion as much as possible. But also make known what you feel and believe.

This was the case for some 150-200 years I believe. Can China claim Tibet was always a part of it, and then come in with it's army? It sounds like invasion to me. So, though Tibet was ruled by Tibetans, and others throughout history, I think even Tibet ruled some fo "China" as well, I feel Tibet has been it's own country for some time. Why did China need to claim Tibet belonged to it? The crackdown on peaceful Tibetan protestors has also troubled me.

I am in full support of Tibet regaining autonomy from China. But I see there are alot of China-supporting AND Tibetan-supporters/Tibetans behaving with disrespect towards others. If we should follow the Dalai Lama, we need to remember his teachings of peace and harmony in our actions, compassion. I believe China and Tibet are separate countries, with separate cultures and language. China claimed Tibet was "always" part of China, but as I understand there was no subordination between the two.
