Awesome footage, both are legends. Amazing.

Wathcing this only once it looked like to me that Carrol's hit were more vert and his transition to the inside way more fluid. He skated through the flats where Curren hopped. Carrol had more hits, even on his backhand which is harder. Curren had the best style back then but the other Tom should've won this particular one.

Small waves suck ANYwhere, not just Oceanside.

GREAT! I was sitn underneath a photo scaffold with Buttons n Gerlach watching this! Could not have cared less about the "slop"! My fukn beach..my heroes all over the place...Great time in my life. Don't like O'side stay the fuck away...simple.

I feel sorry for them for having to compete in that slop. Oceanside sucks.
I still have some boards like these and they are in fact great fun and beter than over concaved rockered skimpy stuff from 90's so there !

Two of greatest surfers with terrible boards and waves

You do realize that those "TERRIBLE BOARDS" were state of the art, just like today's boards. Most, if not all boards made back then were low rocker, with lots of volume through the middle. I had about a dozen of them, just like Curren's.

remember trying to turn those ironing boards....impossible.

I do. Curren's boards at the time were 2 and 7/8 " thick. Try turning that.
