This is a video on how to preflight a Robinson R22 helicopter. I used the do and verify method of using a checklist, where I pre-flight inspected the aircraft and then went over my checklist found in the R22 POH to verify I have inspected everything.

I invite anyone watching any of my videos to add any useful information that can help fellow pilots or pilots wanting to get into the industry.

  • Sorry about not answering that before. That is your heater intake. This White R22 shown in this segment doesn't have a heater unfortunately so that is why the intake is covered up. If shown, you would also see that there are no heater hoses going into the firewall on the other side as well.

That hole would look just like your fresh air intake on the other side, but would then have a blower motor that would help suck the air into that heater intake and help push heat off the exhaust to inside

  • An important note on the Alternator belt.

You said to make sure the belt is there, but I always advise to grab the alternator pulley and see if you can turn it causing it to slip on the belt.

I have found two cases where the belts were loose through this method, and they may not have done their charging duty, causing risk to the flight.

All should also remember that landing light test requires the clutch switch be on. Make sure to pull the breaker first, and to return it to on after.

  • Hi Mike - I'm still trying to figure out what that hole is on the fuselage lets say between (inline) with the battery and the left position light. It's a drain or vent hole of sorts...you can also see it on the video at the 7min:31 sec point in the video. Whats it for? Any ideas. Thanks ~Jeff
