This film marks the beginning of Alan Heath's career in the movie business. We can see here the beginnings of what was to make him later so well known, a fine interview technique allowing the interviewee to get his point across without interuption, camera shake and exciting locations. He is yet to develop the technique of filming with a dirty camera lense, especially the long black stripe down the right hand side that was so characteristic of his later films. As the camera was then only a week old, it has not yet had the chance to get dirty.
Filmed entirely on location near Assisi this classic will no doubt be shown ad infinitum on TCM every third night.
