It is unnecessary to pick up a cat like that. If i would that to my cat, she would kill me... If you pick up a cat at a normal way you will have the same result. I think it is cruel to this to a cat.

dont pick him up that way -- it hurts the cat hes not a small kitten any more - if you dont want a cat give it to a shelter etc

@Ackles4life Yes, most cats still have the reflex that paralyzes them when they are picked up by the scruff.
It does not pain them, but when it comes to cats over 4 pounds (2kg) you should support the rest of their weight with your other hand.

Cats weren't meant to be picked up by people, they're made to be picked up by their mother. When they're young (0-3 yo) you can do this but you can't do it as well as the mother can.
P.S. DON'T try on a dog. It'll either bite he shit out of you or get hurt.

no worries ppls. he's not hurting the kitty. Not only do cats have extra skin their, to be picked up like that (by their moms of course), but if u do it right, it actually releases endorfins(sp?) makes the kitty all lazy n peacful. momentarily of course.
