They get away with it because we captives and detainees are legally rendered "non-human specimens". That legally takes away all our human rights, allows them to say they "don't torture people" because we are no longer legally "people", and it means international treaties don't apply to us. Higher ups should be afraid of the people, not the opposite. People have a political responsabilty and , yes, should collectively be accountable and apologize when history demands.

Noone is going to be prosecuted. If anything, some unimportant pawn will be scapegoated with all the blame so as to take the pressure off.

That's the thing about being in power, the US gets away with stuff. For example, there was no real reason to convict the nazi leaders instead of the allied leaders at nuremberg. But the latter were the winners so that's a no brainer.

At the end of the day, after all this information comes out, what would it look like if the Red Cross were suddenly banned from these sites? It's better the information is out. Let's prosecute the Bush administration for War Crimes and show the world that we're not all criminally liable.
