One of my first videos was not a music composition, but a music edit: I edited "Behind Blue Eyes" to fit with CSI:NY, as that was the original opening for the show. A few years later, I've looked back and decided to have another go, with a different series and a different song.

This time, I've made a cut version of Eminence Front, another very popular song by The Who. I picked CSI: Miami, as not only did the song fit perfectly with the footage, but it worked as a theme of facade, something that the detectives encounter on a regular basis.

I took my time with the video editing, and actually got ahold of HD footage. I think the song works remarkably (and surprisingly) well. I think the introduction could of had a little bit of a boost to it, or some sort of effect. I was seriously considering applying something to it. In the end, I decided not to, as people would more likely see it as me butchering up a classic song.

As for why I edited CSI Miami, it's just got potential, seeing how all the CSIs use music by The Who. I don't think this should replace "Won't Get Fooled Again", as I think that song fits perfectly. But if for some reason they couldn't use that song, there's always alternatives like this.

And for those who are curious, I actually don't watch CSI: Miami, nor do I watch the other CSIs (anymore). I enjoyed Las Vegas and New York at the time, but I have moved on since then.

I'm also seriously considering matching up CSI Miami with Crockette's Theme from Miami Vice for laughs.

All rights of the song belong to The Who and Warner Bros. Records.
All rights of the CSI Miami footage belongs to Alliance Atlantis and CBS Television Studios.

  • You really did a good job with this one, Dude.

  • Thanks. :D

  • Oh, ok. I gotcha, and yes I agree with you in the expectations of pro composers. Rare did have some wonderful work done, especially for Nintendo in earlier years.

I hope your video sticks around, dude.

  • Thanks. Me too.

  • This is nothing without the epic YEEEEEEEEAAAHHHHHHHHH at the beginning, but anyway its good ;D

  • I think that's the secret to some of the best composers: I know all of Rare's employees were expected to edit audio, etc, and they were masters at their craft.

Thanks for the comments. As for WBR... ;>.>

The video has only been online for an hour... They wouldn't have noticed it yet. So here's hoping! :D :S

  • I meant, I updated it. I added a bit more information at the bottom.

Yes. Baba O'Riley was with Audacity. This was with Soundtrack Pro, which i think helped the quality. Songs with a standard beat like this are pretty easy to edit. They only require simple cuts, which I can do. Orchestra pieces, however, such as the Nutcracker, are very difficult to edit due to a lack of a standard beat. I know this as I edited a show once.

Part 2 of this post in a moment...

  • Oh, yes. I read your description.

I'm certain that most people using any sort of editing program (whether it be intended for music or video media) come to quickly realize the ease with which they can edit their own material.

It's neat to see that you enjoy producing on a variety of levels.

Oh, and this intro is catchy. 5/5 Glad that WBR wasn't to stingy about the use of the footage.

  • Haha, I suppose that's one way putting it. I oddly enjoy editing every once in a while. But it's more just a concept. It's nice to see things under different light, such as the CSI introductions.

Check my video comments, I've edited it a little.

  • I agree with you in saying the song pairs well with the footage.

I take it then that this project exeplifies your skill as a potential editor, and you'd like to bring awareness to your work?
