its probably closer to 9 - 11 lbs. they really didnt start hitting 8.5 pounds until gibson started hollowing out chambers in the mahogany... I own 2 chambered and 2 solid LPs... CHeers

I think part of it is the finishes weren't as thick as they are today. Modern guitars feel like they're dipped in plastic.
The thing is also 50 years old though. Find anything that old and it's going to have some wear.
