Since India began the process of liberalisation and threw open its doors to foreign competition in 1991, the country has recorded high economic growth rates with GDP and per capita income steadily rising. At the same time, income inequality has also been rising, with many contending that liberalisation has favourably impacted some more than others. What is the reason that we have not been able to ensure prosperity for all in spite of high growth rates? What is the way forward to ensure that the lopsided nature of our development process can be corrected?
