What are the key characteristics of sculptures and how did such works survive the attack in the Sixties on traditional notions of sculpture as being outmoded and irrelevant? This lecture will address the aforementioned issue and explore how artists in the Eighties sought to find new ways to create sculptures that were both contemporary and yet reminiscent of past traditions. In addition, it will promote discussion on the issue of public sculptures and the challenges of creating and installing sculptures within urban landscapes and sites.

Main Artists: Richard Deacon, Anish Kapoor, Anthony Gormley, Jeff Koons, Montien Boonma, Claes Oldenburg, Stefan Balkenhol, Katerina Fritsch, Huang Yong Ping, Rebecca Horn
