Rehearsal fight call (75%) for The Porters of Hellsgate's HAMLET, January/February, 2010, featuring Charles Pasternak as Hamlet, and Alex Parker as Laertes. Filmed by Porters' stage manager, Nick Neidorf.

"When this Hamlet (Charles Pasternak) says he'll "put an antic disposition on," he means it. Pasternak's prince is sometimes maniacal, bounding around and turning somersaults. He brandishes his wit savagely and at times — as in the closet scene with Gertrude (Jessica Temple) — he can be downright brutal. It's a long evening (more than three hours) but an engrossing one." - LA Weekly "GO!"

"The Porters Of Hellsgate's tenth production once again proves them a force to be reckoned with in Los Angeles classical theater. Director Thomas Bigley's highly imaginative staging and a number of bravura performances make this Hamlet a must-see, not just for Shakespeare fans but also for those who may have trepidations about seeing the 400+-year-old play. In particular, cofounder Charles Pasternak gives an electric, tour de force performance as the Prince Of Denmark that can stand up to the best Hamlets you or I have seen. Not everyone in the cast rises to the level set by Pasternak, Eddie Castuera, Bigley, Gus Krieger, and Alex Parker. Notwithstanding, The Porters Of Hellsgate's Hamlet is one well worth an enthusiastic "WOW!" Pasternak's performance alone deserves to be seen as do Bigley's magnificent directorial strokes (and it features one of the most exciting sword fights that this reviewer has ever seen)." - StageSceneLA "WOW!"
StageSceneLA Award Winner Charles Pasternak, Best Actor

StageSceneLA Award Winner Thomas Bigley, Best Director

"...Of the two productions that the Porters present, Hamlet is the more successful, largely due to the performances of Charles Pasternak as Hamlet and Eddie Castuera as Horatio, two of the founding members of the company. Mr. Castuera's is a quieter, more grounded, restrained and thoughtful performance. He disappears into the circumstances and is very affecting. Mr. Pasternak's performance is grand, extravagant, showy, audacious and utterly effective. He is, in short, magnificent." - LA Theatre Review

"...The Porters of Hellsgate's production of Shakespeare's legendary play, directed by Thomas Bigley, features a simple set with a few innovative elements, but most importantly, it allows the talents of Pasternak and other members of the cast to give a performance full of the ebb and flow of quick and slow action, tragic and comic situation, culminating in the deadly climax." - StageHappenings.com

"This production of Hamlet is one of the most exciting that I've seen in recent years. The staging and use of space is inspired and Thomas Bigley's direction is quite remarkable. Pasternak does amazing work as the melancholy prince, interlacing fits of mania, method and manipulation seamlessly at break-neck speeds. His delivery of one of Shakespeare's most oft-quoted soliloquies is so full of energy and revelation it is as if no one has ever uttered those words before." - Melpomene
