So, they can be trusted at 14 to make decisions related to "reproductive health" without parental consent. Some of the procedures result in permanent medical/mental damage. But they can't decide to be done with school until 18 or they have met state requirements? That being said, this is a slippery slope, imposing federal regulation on something that is state rights!

I don't support this bill at all.Schools do not inspire learning and to be honest it was never their purpose to do so.Their purpose is to indoctrinate and break the free spirits of individuals to accept whatever comes down from their "superiors"."Walk in a straight line!" "No speaking!" "Obey without question!".These are the things everyone of us hear throughout our tenure as students until some of us have the balls to give them the finger and hit the door to form our own destiny.

I don't, it's a good idea to get your high school diploma, but students that don't want to be there simply won't do any work, and disrupt classes

Wow cant believe this negativity on this policy! You guys are acting like getting a education that's going to help you in getting a job later in life is a bad thing and is compared to jail! Wow can you think of the children in poor places that only dream of going to school and you complain that you get it for free. I 100% support this bill!!

I droped out of High School at 16 (before this law was enacted). In my home state Maryland, you can get a High School Diploma, even if its thourgh a G.E.D. program. If you pass the G.E.D test you will recive a(n) HS Diploma not a general skills diploma. Since droping out I have had 2 jobs (in a "bad" economy) and I'm on the up and up. Also im going to collage part time. I think droping out of school helped me in the long run because I got my HS diploma 1 year earlier then all my classmates.

0:08 "When students are not allowed to drop out, they do better."

No, they don't. They're still bored out of their minds, fall further behind, and think of more unhealthy ways to entertain themselves while they're locked there. They pick more fights, spread their discontent, and pull the whole class down. Maybe there are a few who would do better, but they are the very few.

When is force ever the best way to fix a problem? Never.

@airdriverWhile spouting off your left wing propoganda talking points in the same breath you say I"M not thinking for myself--that's a good one. Since public school didn't teach you this, proposals are the first step in making law. Someone doesn't just speak and there's a law. There is a process, and he wants to start it. Homeschool educators are tired of having our rights threatened by the likes of you and Obama. Drink more kool-aid, your blood sugar is low and your mind is being affected.

Most of the time, people want to fix the symptoms of a problem and not the problem itself. Our problems concerning public education need to be addressed...fix the cause of the high drop out rates first, then we'll see the drop out rates improve! Problems like teen pregnancy, bullying and violence, drugs and poor educational standards. Let's get our teachers a higher level of education (Master's degrees) and better pay....then maybe our kids will want to stay in school!

Why don't you try LISTENING to what he said? he said "I'M PROPOSING THAT EVERY STATE....". Obviously he wasn't commanding them to do this, it was a SUGGESTION and a DAMN GOOD ONE TOO. I'm not drinking Kool-Aid, YOU ARE. Try turning off talk radio and thinking for yourself.

Are you sure your name isn't airhead? My children are home schooled for a reason, not the least being people with such moronic ideas (let alone unconstitutional---ever hear of States Rights?) You ever think there's a reason why he's the first one, THE ONLY ONE, to propose such an idea? Probably not--- you have drunk too much of the kool-aid.

I can't believe that so many people are against this idea of the president's. I've heard a lot of past presidents whine about the drop out rate and Obama is the first one, THE ONLY ONE, who proposed this idea.

What's TRULY MIND BOGGLING is Republican opposition to this.
