"it always matters.youre my friend right?"

The music ended and the audience applauded their winning couple
"you know" Bridget said, still in standard stance for a waltz with an arm draped over his shoulder, one tucked in Joes and one of his arms wrapped around her waist "your always saying stuff about how were friends and all but...friends dont kiss friends the way you kissed me"

"I know. Sorry I cant help it. Im just in love with you is all" he said laughing though his words smacked of truth
"admit it Joe, you'll never be able to get over me" she teased good-naturedly "your completely head over heals. So just kiss me like you mean it and get it over wi-"
"okay"
"o-okay?" Bridget stuttered wondering if she'd heard right
"yeah, okay. I'll admit it"
Bridget was poised to speak but ended up swallowing her words to make room for Joes kiss

(five minutes later)
Bridget found a nook on Joes shoulder were her head could fit perfectly
"you think it'll be awkward for everyone now that were..you know..."
"together?" Joe supplied for her
yeah
"only one way to find out" He said, taking her hand in his and pulling her along behind him into the ball room
Bridget stumbled after him in her heels "whats with you tonight?"
Joe grinned over his shoulder at her "a little birdie told me something about spontaneity and it sounded fun, thought I'd give it a try"
She blushed furiously, embarrassed by her behaviour from earlier that evening which now just seemed childish and unnecessary.
"sorry about that whole..."
"hey, I'd do the same if it were the other way around" he said, coming to her for a kiss and she received him happily, just as shed done several times that evening

"And you two articles!" came Haleys voice from behind them
They split apart and turned to see Haley, Alexandria, Nick and Kevin, all looking more than slightly irritated
"where exactly have you been?" Haley demanded
"do you know how long weve been looking for you?" Kevin asked
"er a couple of minutes?" Bridget guessed hopefully
"try 25" Alexandria said
Nick glared at them "we must've combed this entire ball room"

"er-humph" Joe fake coughed to get their attention
"oh I'm sorry Joseph. Have you actually come up with a reason why my feet are so very swollen?" Haley asked rhetorically
"well yeah, I guess you could say so" he replied raising his and Bridgets joined hands for them to see
"finally" Alexandria said, sitting down on a nearby chair with a loud thunk from her gown
"thats wonderful. Now lets go, I cant carry this fabric another second" Haley said

Kevin fished his keys out of him pockets "I am so beat. Alright, to my car everyone"
"crap" Alexandria said from her chair "I wish I never sat down"
Nick went to help her up

"I'm sorry, I dont think you understand us" Bridget said as her friends bustled about, getting their things together to leave "we,as in Joe and I.are now together"
"yeah we know" Kevin said, now feeling about in his inside jacket pocket for his keys
Nick propped Alexandria up "were we supposed to be shocked?"
"sorry. We already knew it would happen soon enough. We even had bets on when." Haley turned to Alexandria "oh by the way since its still Friday, you win"
"yay" Alexandria cheered weakly

"you bet on us?!" Bridget asked in disbelief
She got nods and shrugs as her answer back
"well..how much?" Joe asked
Bridget gaped at him "JOE!"
"what? I want to know how much they think were worth" he said innocently

"55 pounds" Nick said
Bridget wrinkled her nose "only?"
They began their tired walk toward the parking lot
"that's disgraceful." Joe said "I would've bet at least 60"
Bridget punched him
"I mean 70" he corrected himself
She punched him again
Joe looked at her completely bewildered "what do you want from me?!"
