  • I've always had a feeling that the European jazz players might have taken 'West Coast Cool School" style of bebop to higher levels of artistry and consistency than anyone. Everything I've heard of Lar's exemplifies this.

Although all judgement of music risks the "judge not lest ye be judged" proscription, except for Gerry Mulligan no finer baritone sax jazz musician has recorded than Lars Gullin.

He frequently, as it were, takes one into a different realm.

  • @pvelectric

True giants both of them! Gullin would've been greater had he played more in the US.

  • Fantastic! How Lars plays, incredible.

  • helluvagun, totally agree, pepper adams, very good but not as good, bud shank also good, but none i thing in all US jazz finally as good as the two, Gerry and Lars. hope to post perhaps my favorite, i consider "immortal" solo of lars on the song, "All of Me." Swings my ass off every time i blast in on my hi fi phono.
