"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights." This is what it says in the very first Article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The idea of Human Rights is one of the most important fundaments of human co-existence. At the same time human rights are subject to fierce debates and Human Rights violations are common all over the world.

But what exactly are Human Rights? Who is responsible for protecting them? And do they really apply to all people? These are the question the newest animated Video clip in the WissensWerte series deals with.

  • So taken that humans deserve rights, which we do, why do we draw a line between us and the rest of the animal kingdom? why do pigs not deserve rights? doesn't a pig suffer? I understand a pig has less understanding of their future and less emotional attachments but is it that lesser that they should be castrated, have some of their teeth plucked out and have their tails cut off without pain-killers, be kept in enclosed spaces then slaughtered so someone can have a dinner tastier than vegetables?

  • "the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health"

you hear that ron paul, NO RAW MILK!

  • well done

  • You can have human rights in the U.S. so long as you don't protest, question authority, or definitely question a police officer. Currently, we have no one to defend our rights in the U.S., despite the public face we try to show to the rest of the world...

Thank you for posting this tho, it is good to see.

  • awesome........................

  • Excellent video!

  • I feel this clip gives overview of human rights, what they are, their complexities, their shortcomings, why human right are needed for a better world. It covers who is responsible for implementing and protecting human rights. I am struck by the video's as it shows human rights complexities and how much energy has been put into it.

  • I also see how far social justice has come and how it has failed thus far in many ways. But hope lies in our hard work to strive for respecting and loving each other as we meet with successes and failures along the way towards human rights for all.
