As soon as he came on the stage, the audience did not expect that Salif Keita would ask a sitted audience at the House of World cultures to stand and dance in a fully packed hall to celebrate the birthday of his main guitarist. This was the beginning of the main concert by the Malian singer who arrived here on a european tour that will cover a number of cities and continues up to Zurich. The audience continued to dance and at one time or another, the singer invited dancers to the stage to make the show colourful. Due to reasons beyond my control, filming was restricted and many were asked to switch off their cameras...... I managed to zoom in a few videos for my youtube channel which I hope will add to already existing sites of this great singer. The presence of the lady Ambassador of Mali at the concert made the occassion more lively.
I saw him live a few months ago and his performance still haunts. Simply amazing show, his voice and presence filled the whole venue. His band was great and what was amazing is how he kept drawing attention to the band and not to himself (he asked the audience to sing "Happy Birthday" for one of the background singers)...the band excelled under his command and admiration. I can't wait to see him live again!
