Love is on it's Way- Chapter 8

~Kennedy's POV~

I drove to Santa Monica in silence. What was she thinking? My mind ran blank of answers when I drove up the beach Nick had described. I stopped quickley and jumped out of the car, into the cool air. I saw two figures at least ten feet from eachother on the beach. I ran towards the bigger one, knowing it was Nick.

"How is she?" I asked, shocking him as I came up behind him. He looked at me and smiled, but as quick as it came, the smile went. He stood up and we started to walk over to the other figure laying on the beach with her eyes closed.

"She's been quiet, too quiet. I think she fell asleep. It wouldn't be a shock. She was pretty wasted..." Great, I thought as I moved closer to Leilani. I kneeled down and put one hand on her arm, still a little wet. I shook her gently.

"Leila... wake up, it's me.." She groaned and turned to me, opening her eyes. Then she noticed Nick kneeling beside me and her eyes narrowed.

"Not him.." She mumbled. I looked at Nick with a confused look on my face. He looked just as, if not more, confused than I was. He shrugged.

"She's been pushing me away the whole time.. she said something about Co..." He didn't get to finish. Leila cutt him off by putting her finger on his lips and a quick scream. I was so lost. What was wrong with her? Nick let out a sighed and went to help me lift her up, but she struggled away from him.

"Get off me!" She screamed. Nick was completely taken a back. I flushed.

"Omigosh, I have no idea what's up with her. I should just take her home. Do you need a ride somewhere?" Nick stood up nervously.

"Uhh, yeah, back to Toluca Lake, if that's on your way." I put my arms behind Leila and hoisted her up, pulling her on my back. She was really light and I could give her a piggy-back to the car no big deal.

"Yeah. We live there too." I stated. I was so exhausted and I could tell Nick was too. We made it to the car and I laid Leilani down in the back. I just hoped we wouldn't get pulled over or anything. I got in the car beside Nick and pulled out, getting on the highway. We were quiet for a minute but then I realized I probably had to do some explaining.

"So, uh, I'm still kind of confused. Is that your twin?" I actually laughed at that. He must've been more confused thanI thought.

"Yeah, that's Leilani." I glanced back at her as she mumbled something, drifting back off to sleep. "As you can tell, We're identical, but kind of different." He laughed.

"I hope so. She seems to hate me." I shrugged.

"I don't think she hates you. She's just weird when she's uhm, not sober. Isn't everyone?" I just sighed, thinking of how different she's been in the last 3 months. Since that first day of school. I still don't know what happened that day...

"What's wrong?"

"Hmm? Oh, she's just been acting so different recently. She's changed." I had to tell the truth, right? Even though Leila never did anymore, I kept true to our vow. I just hoped he wouldn't ask anymore, because for some reason, I felt like I HAD to tell him. And I just wouldn't say 'no, I don't want to tell you.' like I did any other time.

"How has she changed?" He asked. Of course.

"First of all, take a look at her. She wasn't nearly that bad before. She would never just go off randomly and get like that. Sometimes, maybe. But it's been happening way to much. Secondly, she never tells me anything anymore, and that's bad. She always lies to me." I could tell he was sincerely interested, and it felt good to get these feelings out.

"Everyone lies once in a while..." He started.

"No, not me, or Leila. Well, she used to not lie." He raised one eyebrow.

"Really? Never?"

"Never. But recently, she's lied to me everyday, and I can tell. I just can't figure her out now."
