new hampshire international speedway, NHIS, 2009 zx6r, my first track day and my first crash. i looked behind and noticed some guy following me very closely. i freaked out and decided to initiate the turn late. my crotch was stuck on the gas tank, which resulted in my left knee sticking out instead of pushing on the tank. i hung off but couldnt lean the bike more, i started running wide and stared to the grass area to avoid it and went exactly where i was looking at. to summarize, all this happened from WRONG BODY POSITION. never sit too close to the gas tank, it will restrict your steering inputs.

later that day i lowsided as well. that's how we learn, learning the hard way, pushing the bike and ourselves to the limits.

  • i can't beleive they let you ride with mirrors on still, i ride the same bike down in Florida, for your first time you didn't look too bad but like a previous comment stated, keep the bike higher in the RPms and a lower gear to get the shoot out of the turns, our bike lags real low end tourqe. but im sure youve already noticed that

  • @jpo82682 yeah they r ok with it. notice the corner worker even tried to unfold the mirrors after i crashed . lol i folded them back....

as a matter of fact, i was in 1st and 2nd gears, shifted to 3rd gear on a straight. but probably was in 2nd when i crashed. can't remember really. so i believe u r right.

i noticed it LAGS a bit when i roll on gas . it bothers me much. test rode my friend's 2006 gsxr600 and it didn't have that issue at all. 09 zx6r is much faster and agile though.

  • You were out of the rev range and in to high a gear.... bad / inexperienced riding. I can rip in our mountains harder than you ride on that track.... next time remember your training wheels, fatty.

  • @black2010zx6r bro i was in 1st gear when i crashed. as i mentioned, it was my FIRST time riding on the track, so no experience at all. i lost 30 lbs now. lol . im lookin at myself in that video and can't believe i was fat!

  • What was your top speed at that track?

  • @mark28105 the maximum was about 120-125 mph. the pros do 135-140

  • If you go one tooth down on the front sprocket you'll gain a little low end, but lose a little top speed, the low end will help the lag and the top speed isn't real noticeable so its not a big issue. But as i said before ive noticed that if you keep the bike at 6 grand or slightly above you get better speed off the corner without all the lag.

  • You could've made that turn man. Although I don't see where your head is, it's pretty obvious that your head and eyes were fixated on the dirt instead of where you wanted the bike to go. It shows in the few handle bar adjustments before your fall. That could be secondary though, as I see you didn't maintain your line you had established. It would've been a little close but I think you'd not have hit the dirt if you held it.

Anyway, you live and you learn. Hope you haven't given up riding!!!

  • @black2010zx6r lol listen to you street squid. You can't ride faster than anyone who is riding on the track. Stop "racing in the mountains" and put your money where your mouth is, maybe when you will finally crash on the street you will realize how painful hitting a rockwall or guard rail is.

  • @ryansilversimpson I didn't have a tank protector installed but i did have Shogun NO CUT frame sliders on it. they caused the plastic damage. without them the fairings would be scratched. I installed Shogun CUT frame sliders now. My instructor told me no one on the track use NoCut frame sliders.

The right side fairing was scratched and cracked, the radiator hose had to be replaced (~$50-60). There was no other damage on the bike :) You can rent their bikes, that's what i'm gonna do soon :)

  • Awesome video! I have never been to the track though I would love to go... I have two questions that I would really appreciate your answer to: 1) Did you have any tank/frame protectors or sliders at the time of the crash? And 2) How badly was the bike damaged? Thanks! Great video!
